Throughout the Maintenance and Operations Engineering Technician - Level 3 Apprenticeship, apprentices will learn to work on complex systems, including installation, testing, servicing, and decommissioning, across different sectors. They will be trained in reactive and preventative maintenance, as well as safe plant operation, plant start-up and shut-down procedures, and monitoring and troubleshooting critical operational problems.

By applying engineering principles, apprentices will ensure that work is completed safely, on time, and within budget, contributing to the efficient operation of plant and equipment.

The Maintenance and Operations Engineering Technician Level 3 Apprenticeship provides apprentices with the skills, knowledge and behaviours needed to complete a wide range of engineering activities.

  • Engineering theories and principles for the occupation.

  • Complying with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Locating and fixing faults in plant and equipment.
  • Communicating with stakeholders and following technical specifications.
  • Inspecting and maintaining plant to meet operational standards.
  • Ensuring tasks meet specifications and quality requirements.

Behaviours:

  • Adhering to health and safety policies.
  • Ensuring work meets quality standards.
  • Collaborating effectively with others.
  • Solving problems using critical reasoning.
  • Promoting ethical and sustainable practices.
  • Managing risks through continuous monitoring.

This apprenticeship is for apprentices in roles in various engineering sectors, with opportunities to progress into senior positions like Maintenance Supervisor or Operations Manager.

Delivery

Apprentices must attend the Greater Manchester SkillCentre 1 day per week and a Skills Development Tutors will visit apprentices in the workplace, working with them to meet employer’s specific needs and expectations.

Entry requirements

Applicants must have a GCSE grade A*-C or 4-9 in GCSE maths and English.

Progression

Apprentices may progress to roles like Maintenance Supervisor, Engineering Manager, or Operations Manager. They may also specialise in areas such as electrical or mechanical engineering.

Further qualifications or certifications, such as Chartered Engineer status, could open doors to even higher-level opportunities in the engineering field.
